Principal Counsel

Dr. Remi Peter Olatubora hails from Iyansan, in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State. He was born on 27TH March, 1967. He had his primary school education at U.N.A. Primary School, Iyansan between 1972 and 1978.

He studied at Comprehensive High School, Ode-Irele, Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State for his Secondary School Certificate between 1979 and 1984. He proceeded to Sanni Luba Continuing Education Centre, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where he had his Higher School Education and obtained his Higher School Certificate HSC/ GCE A-Level with 13 points out of the maximum of 15 point obtainable.

The outstanding result of Dr. Olatubora in HSC/GCE A-Level earned him a direct entry admission to study Law at the prestigious University of Lagos in Nigeria (1989-1992), where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with honours. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1993 after having successfully completed his one training at the Nigerian Law School. He studied for and obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State in 2006. Between 2016 and 2017 he studied for and obtained a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Law, again from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He capped his search for higher academic laurels when he studied for and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Law in 2020 from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, shortly after his conferment with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). His doctoral research work is titled: The Challenges of the Enforcement of International Criminal Law. Dr. Olatubora carried out his Ph.D. field work at the International Criminal Court (ICC), The Hague, Netherland, a feat which qualifies him to practice law at the ICC, Netherlands. Dr. Olatubora is a member of the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a certification which qualifies him to affix MCIArb., after his name.

Dr. Olatubora is a man of high intellectual capacity. Over the years he has published a good number of reputable law books and influential journal articles. The following are some of his published textbooks: (1) Electoral law and Practice in Nigeria (2006), (2) Dr. Olusegun Mimiko’s Petition and Issues in Nigeria Election Litigation (2011), (3) Election Litigation in Nigeria (Vols. 1 & 2) (2015), Pre-Election Litigation in Nigeria (2022), Election Litigation in Nigeria (Vols. 1 & 2) Second Edition (2023). 

 The following are some of his published journal articles: (1) An Analysis of the Compensation Provisions of the Land Use Act in Comparative Context IJCL 2016, Part 1, (2) Prospects and Challenges of Plea Bargaining in the Administration of Justice in Nigeria IFJR 2016. (3) An Examination of the Onus of Proof and Rule against Hearsay Evidence in Election Petition, IFJR, 2017 vol. 11(1), (4) Immunities of State Officials and the Challenges of Enforcement of International Criminal Law in Foreign Domestic Courts, EULJ 2018 Vol. 1., (5) An Examination of the Sui Generis Features of Election Litigation in Nigeria, EUJL, Vol. 2 (2019), (6) Prosecution of Core International Crimes in Internal Armed Conflicts and the Question of Accountability in Nigerian Domestic Courts, Vol. 1 Cavendish University Law Journal, Co-author Prof. Omolade Olomola, Dean, Faculty of Law, Cavendish University, Uganda (2022), and many more. 

ACADEMIC DISTINCTIONS
  1. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1993 with Second Class (Upper Division).
  2. His Electoral Law and Practice in Nigeria (2006) was listed by the Nigerian Council of Legal Education in 2007 as one of the recommended textbooks for Civil Procedure Law at the Nigerian Law School.
  3. His Election Litigation in Nigeria Vols 1 and 2 (2016) was selected and approved by the President of the Court of Appeal as a practice book for all Judges of Election Tribunals and Justices of the Court of Appeal in 2019.
  4. His Election Litigation in Nigeria Vols 1 and 2 Second Edition (2023) has again been selected and approved by the President of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria as a practice book for all Election Tribunal judges and Justices of the Court.

MENTORING

Dr. Olatubora has been a great influencer and mentor to up-coming lawyers all over Nigeria. 

  1. Between 2017 and 2020, he taught Law of Evidence, Criminal Law and Constitutional Law at Elizade University, pro bono (ie, free of charge).
  2. From 2021 to date he has been teaching Law of Evidence, pro bono at Redeemer’s University, Ede Osun State Nigeria.
  3. Two of Dr Olatubora’s former students at Elizade University are currently legal counsel in his law firm in Abuja.
